"View of houses in Delft", better known as "Het straatje" is a painting by the Dutch master Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675). It is one of the two cityscapes known by Vermeer and has been in the possession of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam since 1921. The painting depicts a view of an alley with parts of houses in Delft. The ordinary life depicted in this painting belongs to a completely different theme than Vermeer's previous biblical and mythological pieces. Johannes Vermeer may have painted it around 1658. It is an oil on canvas and the dimensions of the canvas are 54.3 x 44 centimeters. Its thickness is nine centimeters. The street has been hanging in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam since the twenties of the twentieth century. A scrubbing chute is visible in the middle of the painting, indicating that the buildings were close to a canal. The Dutch art historian Frans Grijzenhout claimed in 2015 that the location would be located in the Vlamingstraat where the plots with the numbers 40-42 are located.
