Abstrakt

The purpose of the research paper is to study and systematise coin finds in the Ros River basin and introduce them into scientific circulation. The theoretical and methodological basis of the study is a set of general scientific and numismatic methods, which are determined by the available source base and the assessment of its reliability or unreliability. The scientific novelty. This is the first comprehensive study of the finds of ancient Greek coins of the VI – I centuries BC from the Ros River basin and adjacent territories in historiography. Conclusions. The analysis of the 160 ancient Greek coins of the VI – I centuries BC found in the Ros River basin and its adjacent territories allowed us to identify 7 locations of concentration of such finds, including 4 locations in the Kyiv region and 3 locations in the Cherkasy region. In each of these regions, there is one territorial community near which clusters of single coins and coin/coin-object hoards were found. The distribution of coin finds in the Ros River basin and adjacent territories by issuer, carried out in the article, showed that the largest number of coins are Olbian coins – 53%, the second most widespread coins of the Pontic state of Mithridates VI Eupator – 36%, coins of Panticapaeum are in third place and make up only 5.6%, which is almost 9.5 times less than the coins of Olbia. The article proves, based on the analysis of numismatic sources, that the trade of the population of the Ros River basin and adjacent territories with the ancient world in the VI – I centuries BC was exclusively connected with Olbia. The negative consequences for scientific research of the absence of a state programme for the registration of treasures and coin finds are emphasised
