Ort | Frankreich |
It was a company, active from 1920 to 1970, that developed, produced, maintained and operated telephones, both in post offices and in booths, and issued tokens used in its telephones.
In 1923, France granted a concession for prepaid telephone booths to the company Le taxiphone, which installed booths in public places (cafeterias, restaurants, etc.). At the same time, the PTT administration opened its own booths at post offices and some train stations. Therefore, from the beginning two modes of operation coexisted, the public and the private.
Starting in 1937, the coins were no longer used in the booths and two types of tokens were created: “Téléphones publics” for the PTT and “Compagnie le Taxiphone” for the company of the same name. In the case of the latter, it is difficult to know if their tokens, which do not bear a date, were created at this time or later. This mode of operation of the public cabins lasted until 1970, when the administration assumed their management. The company Le Taxiphone adopts the name of Société Anonyme Française d'Appareils Automatiques (SAFAA).
