Hello, I am new to collecting and I wanted to find out which types of coin material I can and cannot keep together. I have cooper-nickel, brass, aluminum, aluminum-bronze, nickel, bimetallic and nordic gold coins. I am begging you for help.
If you keep the coins in chemical free albums or in flips - the coins cannot be in contact with each other.
Hope this helps.
I don't have an album, I keep the coins almost together (loose). I heard somewhere that copper and aluminum cannot be stored. I wanted to know more, if I keep the coins together, what materials are safe to hold them with? Thanks!
What you heard about is galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals. As long as they are in a dry environment (e.g. desiccant in the bags) this is not a problem. However, to be on the safe side for any long term storage it's best to only store coins with other coins of similar materials together.
