Hi guys,

Newbie here and I'm learning a lot from these forums.
I've heard from some collectors that coins with pitting are usually an indicator that these are not genuine or fake.
May I ask your opinion on this 1921 Morgan Dollar which as you can see have pitting on the obverse side of the coin. This is being offered to me by a friend of a friend. What's your overall assessment, is it good and real or not?

Thanks.

I'm no expert, but I'd avoid this one. The details on the obverse seem...mushy (in addition to the pitting) and the reverse doesn't look good at all when compared to a genuine example.

Compare with the images here: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1492.html
Without debating whether it is even genuine or not, this would be a very poor example even if genuine. The 1921S (this one is an S mint) is one of the most common and abundant dates in the Morgan dollar series. Plenty are available in very nice condition at affordable prices if you really want one. Personally, I too would just stay away from it.
When in doubt, don't!
Good thing I hesitated to buy, having read that this is one of the most faked coins ever! The seller was asking for US$26.00, I don't know if she knows about it or not, but she almost got me!

Anyway, thanks guys for the advice! Am so glad we have these kind of forums!

Thanks,
R&G
