It's a standard British issue not a colonial coin.

Your shilling is an 1846/48 overdate. These were actually the most common type of 1848 shillings.
None were issued in 1847 and many 1848 ones were issued with the 8 in the date slug struck over the 6.
Catalogues £25 in Fine condition, yours is VG so probably half that.
