Just received a bulk lot of these Italian mini-checks, similar to Notgeld. I know very little about these banknotes despite being in Italy when they were in use. The lot is 65 UNC notes and I got it for US $33.11 including shipping. Browsing the Internet I feel I got a good deal, as after examining about half the notes I found only one note that looks like a duplicate.

Here are 3 sets of notes I found unusual.

1)2)3)1) I assume these have nothing to do with the Vatican as an issuer but are Italian trade vouchers, like number 3, which I found one of on Numista Exonumia. 2) Closest things to Sammarinese bank notes. These may be the UNC catch of the day. I'm not sure of value so I would like comments. A Japanese seller on eBay was offering them at US $45 each, shipping additional. They are in the banknote catalogue on Numista. 3) Italian trade vouchers of which I found one in Numista Exonumia. I assume the 2 with overprint for CAMPIONE are for use at the Albano Gambetta Co. in the Italian exclave and the one without overprint in Cento, Italy. Note that all 3 have "BUONO" misspelled "BOUNO" on the reverse.

What do you think? Did I get a good deal? There is maybe one more trade voucher for a numismatic show in Rome and the rest are real mini-checks, some with identical dates and denominations but different payees. In the Numista Banknotes we seem to distinguish by denomination and bank for type and then list by date and payee.

you actually got a good deal! as an italian i can say that san marino's mini checks are very hard to find and they are in demand because they are the only san marino currency that i know.As of the vaticana ones i think that they are from a shop nearby vatican.in fact this are not exactly notgeld but change for little money from the period when italy had a coin shortage(as you can see 100 lire weren't too much even back then).Who had a shop when he couldn't give you change could give you one little check like yours or give you candies i hope i was helpful :)
massi1907, thanks very much for just the type of comment I was hoping for.

Although I am on holiday a present, I managed to confirm an exchange with an Italian collector, who agreed to send me 114 of these miniassegni banknotes, which I have to sort through on my return. Although some may look the same, they are differentiated by date of issue, so there may be a few variants.
They seemed to be only issued from 1975-78. Once I have sorted them, I will have around 180 of them, but still around 500 to get.

Nice banknote though. Take care of them.
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.
For all you banknote collectors. Link to my swap list.

I can confirm that:

1) These trade voucher issued by Vaticana Roma is not catalogued as “mini-assegno”, so it has only a value as “curiosity”. In fact the Vatican City Mint has never printed banknotes, but only metallic coins (as by Currency agreement between Republic of Italy and Vatican City)

2) The mini-assegni of San Marino Republic was issued by two San Marino Banks:

     - Cassa di Risparmio della Repubblica di San Marino (only 4 issues: 100, 150, 200 and 300 Lire)

     - Banca Agricola Commerciale della Repubblica di San Marino (only 4 issues: 50, 100, 250, and 350 Lire)

They are quite uncommon. You can find some of them on “ebay.it” at €. 5,00 each

https://www.ebay.it/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2499334.m570.l1313&_nkw=san+marino&_sacat=97241

3) The trade voucher with printed “campione” is only a duplicate.

If you want some “mini-assegni” issued by Italian Banks (about 50 Italian Banks printed mini-assegni between 1976 and 1978) you can visit my list for sale on Colnect: https://colnect.com/it/market/list/seller/MarAnt56/sort_order/ascending/sort/by_popularity

or send to me a PM on Numista (Mario46). I can send to you an excel list or give other informations.

Best regards,
