Could someone please tell me the difference between the following two banknotes of Mongolia listed as separate listings in both Numista and World Paper Money catalog? The only difference which I can see is the dates (1966 and 1983 correspondingly). Is there anything more which differentiates one from the other except for the different dates? Both notes are assigned separate Pick numbers. Why? What is the reason for them to be listed separately? Actually the same question goes for the rest of banknotes dated 1966 and 1983 like 5 Tögrög, etc.
Other then the year and the serial I don't see anything that couldn't be normal print quality deviation and according to KM the watermark should also be the same.
Well, the same for me. So I think that all these denominations dated 1966 and 1983 could be merged into single consolidated entries if there is no difference between them apart from the date and serial number. What do you think?
Yes, it might be that we are overlooking something, so let us wait and see what other Numista members can share with us regarding the topic. If nothing new comes up - then I will create a merge request. Thank you!
I have both banknotes in UNC condition. Just looked at them and to be honest, the only difference that I see is that 1966 the brown color is a little darker than 1983, otherwise, they are the same.
Thank you @hex7ech for the effort. Well, in this case I think we could really merge 1, 3, 5, 10, 50 and 100 Tögrög into single consolidated entries to form major types in Numista catalog, and within they will be sub-divided into two variants with different dates.
I see no difference between them, other than the series year, and a slight variation in the strength of the colours, which I often see with banknotes.
From what I can see of the watermark, it is also the same on both.
Serial number positioning and typeface is the same on both.
One of the criteria I use for a banknote to be given a new page is that there must be an appreciable change which warrants a new image.
I would keep the better image, the 1966 note, and merge the two pages - perhaps source a new image of a 1966 which doesn't have the graffiti on the lower right corner.
We most likely get a feature with pictures for all year lines in the nearer future so I would put a picture of the other series in the comment section for safekeeping.

If I make the image change request, it will be pending for like a month, I can't appeal if the request is not rejected :). I have like 300-400 more Hi Res images, but sadly he won't accept them.
I can provide high resolution image, but Mongolia referee won't let me change it :)
Oh, what reason did the referee give for not allowing you to change the picture!
Well he didn't but my opinion he doesn't like his pictures get changed by someone else. Even Xavier knows about this, but no luck yet about solving this issue.
If the 1966 notes are of one imprint and the 1983 are of another imprint that would explain the different Pick numbers… are you considering if the notes are more or less intaglio vs litho?…I disagree with lumping Bank notes that seem to have the same design…

Totally agree with you. Too many notes of similar design have already been mindlessly lumped together.
