Laminated Currency

I personally frown upon laminating currency and collecting such. However, if one were to stumble across a laminated piece, would you consider it of value in general? What if it is a rare or valuable note? Further, what condition would you consider an uncirculated note that has been laminated to be in?

Curious to know why anyone would want to laminate a banknote? Speaking for myself, I would not buy them.

If a valuable banknote is laminated, it may still have some value. But its condition will be considered "deteriorated". This is because the lamination process damages the currency and makes it more difficult to authenticate. The banknote will also be more susceptible to damage in the future. If you plan to collect laminated money, I wouldn't recommend doing so.

Market-Code

I would grade any laminated banknote as ‘Poor’ - the lowest collectible grade.

Additionally, I would suspect any laminated note to possibly being a replica - a colour photocopy or print out.

Definitely to be avoided.

It's like going to a flea market (or your family doctor) & announcing you're only looking for cracked pots! I think picking up a bleached note shows more discretion.

Thank you all for your insight! I have obtained some laminated currency from an estate sale for free since they had no interest in it. I’m currently keeping them in my collection until I find replacements for them.
