Latvia 2 Rubli edge texture

I have this Latvia 2 Rubli with a textured pattern along the right edge. It’s probably just damage but as it’s nice and even along the edge I thought maybe it was intentional. 
 

Maybe a vision impaired person marked it for better recognition?
