I do not know, my first guess will be, some joker grind the value off, for reasons only known by himself. And after that he polished the coin, due to the heavy overall wear.

Hello,
you can observe this regularly with 10 Pfennig coins.
It is actually just normal wear, but more pronounced on one side.
This happens when the strike is too strong, causing the coin to be slightly concave.
In such cases, the rim no longer protects the center of the coin from wear.
