Just got this off of eBay just because it looked cool and it IS cool. However, I do not see any information about it, even though the slab reads 1 of 500.

The slab also says this is brilliant uncirculated, but it is clearly a proof since it has the W mint mark. Unless, of course, this is not a real American Eagle at all.

Any information would be great.

Post mint damage by a third party. It did not come from the mint that way. It also doesn't have a W mint mark. You're seeing the initials of the designer Adolph Alexander Weinman.

Ahh ok. Got it. Thanks.

Yeah I know it's not a mint product, I do have an actual 2025 Eagle that I got from the US Mint online store.

This raises another question: why would a coin grading company certify such coins when they have clearly been tampered with? I am not familiar with ICG, but does NGC or PCGS certify such coins too?

ICG certified it as “Genuine”  but did not call it a Mint State coin grade.  Obviously they do it for money. You probably paid more for it because it was “certified” than you would directly from the company that did it. Not sure about NGC and PCGS but if they do it will get a similar type “grade.”
