Hello Everyone!

I recently got some money for birthday and I have a choice between three coins

1903 Straits Dollar in VF-
1869 Bayerische Madonnentaler (Bavaria) in VF-
1768 Bayerische Madonnentaler (Bavaria) in F+/VF- (VF- is slightly over maybe...)

85 EUR (means I need to borrow some money...), 48 EUR and 45 EUR respectively.

I would really appreciate an opinion.

Thanks, and Merry/Happy Christmas or Hanukah or Ramadan and Eid ul-Fitr or Diwali related holidays!

Tigs.

Do not argue with ignorant people .. !! They will drag you down to their level, then pulverize you with experience ...
I would also say that:

IMHO  if you have to borrow money to buy a coin, don't buy it...
World coins by date and mint place, 1850-2000
I agree with all the above - buy the coin you can afford without borrowing but get the best grade you can.
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

Agreed.  Go with the 1869.

Don't try so hard and be yourself... "Hanukkah 2013 began in the evening of Wednesday, November 27 and ended in the evening of Thursday, December 5"

Buy something XF/AU or better. Work with the money you have. Don't waste it on VF-.
Alright, thanks guys!

I think ill check out some others as well.

You are always going to pay a substantial premium for high grade coins from Europe or the British Empire assuming they have original surfaces and are problem free. If that's the area you collect then that's what you have to live with.

However if your tastes are more broad ranging and you are looking for the most bang for yer buck, why not consider South America? Several countries produced some quite remarkable higher denomination coins during the early/mid 20th century. Coins produced prior to the Great War tend to be somewhat crude in comparison with European coins from the same period. Because South America is not currently fashionable you can buy large sized Pesos, Sols, Dineros and Balboas for little more than the value of the silver content.

The price can only go up with silver commodity prices currently under the cost of extraction and refining, and you are less likely to run into fakes.

The current best value and most aesthetically pleasing, in my far from humble opinion, are the Peru Sol & 1.2 Sol from the 1920's & 1930's and the Panama Balboa series, from 2 1/2 centavos to the crown sized Balboa.

Invest now or repent later!
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.
