Post here the particularly ugly coins and notes and why, with the 1-10 rating.
I am convinced that criticism helps others to improve.
I have noticed, in recent years, a deterioration in the artistic level, perhaps caused by too much attention to 'modest' technology.
Many ''competent offices'' should go back to studying the arts, not just 'cheap' technology. The cultural content and the quality of the drawing are very important.
Today, too many people believe that banknotes made with computerized and colorful designs (like the 'carnival') are beautiful... The details of the vignette, the harmony of the forms, the cultural and historical significance are more important.
2 out of 10
- no symbol of cultural identity of HK (as can be: lion, dragon, city skyline...)
- unclear drawings
- too many strong and mixed colors
3 out of 10
-a political office that has no powers and has never made its history
- low quality of drawing
- palm tree together with the 'political office', close to the discoveries of chemistry, without significant national participation in the latter
- too 'monotonous' color
2 out of 10
- combination of 'old style' portrait drawing with 'cartoon graphics' of unidentifiable objects
- too many small elements of minor importance
- too mixed not so 'serious' colors

-'Italia' looks like as she has been beaten up by some criminal, and then has been bandaged for the wounds, where, on the top, you can still see some square-shaped bumps.
-The city towers should be a crown, yet they do not show sufficient height above the head.
-The traditional feminine veil should be long, elegant and wavy, but it looks like only a bandage.
Finally, the eyes and the nose appear devoid of sinuosity in the lines... too unreal, artificial.
I see a lot of 'personal taste' in this thread. "too many strong and mixed colors" is your personal taste just as "too 'monotonous' color" and "too mixed not so 'serious' colors" is your personal taste. Is there a law that says that banknotes must content "symbol of cultural identity"? If you like or dislike a coin/banknote is all because of your personal taste. I don't really see the Point of this thread. Sorry.
No sorry, no... You are the one who says nonsense. And I, here, will explain it to you:
1- psychology explains the influence of strong colors on the mind, not my sixth sense. Even people from your country, as well as Mauritania or Yemen, would say that red is a more violent color than sky blue or pale green (except for a few cases, which always exist, and cannot be considered because they are a small number). 2- It is not true that there is no law that requires the display of cultural symbols. In some areas, the laws are not written, but they are very important: for example, the 'customary international law'. In this case, the unwritten rule is called logic, and common sense.
For example: If Korea puts a famous philosopher who was Chinese on the banknotes, exploiting his fame for political reasons, it will have many problems in international retaliation, and, many people of the world with 'adequate education', will criticize the small nation for being a liar. 3- If we continue with your 'logical thread', we come to say that everything can be denied and criticized, that is, the triumph of anarchy that makes men become like wild animals. I'll give you a proof:
a few days ago you write `` I've got a lot of critics not accepting pages like that. "It's better to have a bad page than no page at all", I have been told. I still would ask the creator to edit that page. It's more about the personal stats than making a good addition ...

I can also say that your personal opinion is meaningless, and that cataloging many banknotes is better than doing a few but well done, because at this moment there is an urgent need to make new pages in the catalog.
In truth, you, above, just wanted something of a higher quality, the same for which you criticized me.
What do you collect? One coin for each nation. I can say that it is a criterion without relevance, without selecting quality of the coins, but in this case you can make a 'personal rule', because they are your coins, simple pieces of metal, which are inside your home.
I continue with my work below. You can read other authors with your same cultural level. I too often feel sad when I read some things, and I consider most of the contemporary people (not all) extremely ignorant, because they believe the coins made in the last thirty years are beautiful. But they didn't really see the 1860-90 coins, the artistic quality, and their innovative design at that time. Art and cultural values can be demonstrated. But deep knowledge is needed for certain topics.

I didn't mean to offend you or make this personal. I just thought that many of your points were your personal taste, that's all. There's no need to make it personal.

I got curious about this post I made "a few days ago". It was on August 6th. That's more than a month ago. I do stand by it, and I always kindly ask the person to edit the request with relevant information. A page with a wrongly made title and with no other information, not even a catalogue reference, is not better than nothing. It is nothing, and only made because of making his own stats look better. But that has nothing to do with this, though.
The Hong Kong note does have a national symbol. The flower on the banknote is the symbol of the nation. And why a lion, which is a symbol of a specific bank should be on the banknote not of that bank would be a mystery to me.

By unidentifiable objects, do you mean the birds and the flowers on the Australian Banknote? These are identifiable with minimal effort. Prickly Moses Wattle, and an Eastern Spinebill bird. I would recommend numista.com to you for its ease of use, and continuously improving descriptions.

You are just forcing your vision. The flower, the bird and the wattle, are not really clear (not a minimal effort), as I said. You 'push' because you knew before... very easy!
The symbol of HSBC is not the lion, but this animal is probably part of the British heritage. (I said, as could be....in case it was a banknote prior to 1997)
They are very clear on both notes. If you can't see them then its really your issue, not mine. But that they are there on the note, and identifiable kinda makes your opinion seem a bit ridiculous.

I'm with Ngdawa on the point of this thread. Its full of your opinion...and you don't seem equipped to discuss it without being disagreeable.
I am at a loss how you can't see the flower on the Hong Kong note...or that you dismiss the fact that it is on the note ...or don't recognize birds and flowers on other notes...
Regardless, bless your heart.
Keep studying and continue in your journey of education!

I agree with Oklahoman and ngdawa,
the notes are bizarre and different at best.
I personally love the Hong Kong note, its a nice strong colour, it's striking and it stands out.
I found one several years ago and I kept it in my wallet for most of the years after.
It's all personal taste.
I feel you are ignorant and rude.
You should study more. If we do a quiz in 40 subjects, I want to see your loser face then.
You keep studying your language and the heritage of the British Empire.
Everyone have already seen your low level of knowledge and your 'referee' rudeness.
If somebody likes that note, is not relevant.
...let's talk when you are not impaired...I am concerned for how you are probably being perceived. It is as if you are finding all my posts...making rude comments...
Some would call that stalking.
Please go have a snack and take a nap.
Have a blessed day.

Maybe you are rude and childish?

While I agree that some Americans are ignorant and rude (I have personally have had to deal with many of them myself), it is something that happens no matter the population. The point is to look for the good in a group of people. Articles like these somewhat rely on stereotypes and generalize a diverse population.
By the way, what is wrong with Oklahoman's English?
The amount of absolute toxicity (calling each other ignorant children, hate-filled political arguments and ignorance towards other cultures and nationalities) on here seems to be rising.
This is very clearly demonstrated in this dumpster in fire inside of a train wreck of a thread.
