On top of finishing cataloging my personal note collection I have been trying to edit a lot of the errors I have been seeing. One thing that I have seen is something that has been talked a little bit before but I think is worth revisiting. People rely on Pick numbers so much that I think that each Pick number should have its own page. I am seeing a lot of duplicate pages because some pages have multiple Pick numbers and then there are other pages with some of the same Pick numbers as stand alones.
Although I can see the argument of combining some Pick numbers (such as some of the inconsistencies in the Pick system), I don't think they should be combined until Xavier is agreeable to assigning Numista's own catalog numbers. At that point the pages would have to have many more additional information fields for watermark, signature and security enhancement variations.
I think due to the reliance of using P numbers that each one should have its own page for now.
After adding over 2400 banknotes in the catalog I can say this. At first I had the same issue with combined numbers, but in time I realized is the best way to do it. SCWPM is not really clear assigning P#. Some banknotes have huge differences in text or colour and are listed as variants, other are exactly the same the only difference is the year of issue and they get different numbers. That's why I think this small differences as year or signatures and even watermarks should be combined on the same page. More important I think it is is to add all the available information in the comments section, so a member can understand why the note has 2 or more P# and what the differences are. Maybe with photos if possible.
We are lacking clear rules of how a listing should look in the catalog and that's why you see combined pages and pages looking the same. I hope we will get this rules soon and afterwards there will be no more complains and we will not see anymore the differences between the American an French listings for example.
