I have a problem with a sending that seems to be lost, and out of the loss itself, tyhe problem is the attitude of my counterpart.
A Numista member, who I will not name for now (if he reads it will know I'm referring to him), contacted me at middle January, proposing a swap.
He had no coins I would be interested on, so he asked me about selling him some coins he was wanting.
I'm not coins seller, the coins he wanted are silver commemoratives from my country, that are sold by Central Bank, so I proposed him to pay for the coins, adding the post fee and the cost of payment (Paypal fee). This way he would get the coins at lowest price possible, and I would not lose or earn money.
At last he selected 1 coin from Central Bank, and another I had bought twice by mistake, so I just gave him the same price I had paid for it.
I showed him price list Central Bank has for general customers, and fee list of my local post, and also explained how much PayPal charged for a simple payment.
At last, he accepted the conditions, made payment USD 60 via PayPal, and I went to Bank to buy the coin, packed them, and sent to the address he gave, just 3 days after we started the issue. So far, so good.
As usual, post service was slow on January, mainly cause of the increase of traffic owing to Xmas and New Year, and also cause January is the month many people take their annual holidays, as is summer time, in my country and his too.
At start of March, 1 1/2 months later the parcel still have not arrived, so I started a complaint at my Post office, so they investigated what happened, and, if corresponded would pay me compensation for the loss.
Post office came back to me, and explained parcel have been transferred to airline, who confirmed the receipt, but did not return destination data. Everything went complicated cause of Covid problem, our Post office suspended all operations by that time, and after some weeks they started working with limited office time, starting with domestic post, and then gradually adding other countries with low sanitary problem. Unhopefully, the country of this problem had a high sanitary problem.
At April, Post office told me airline have delivered to destination country post service, but still they were not able to locate it, or declare as lost.
At May my post office said they would declare the parcel as lost, asked the other country the data to show parcel was not there, and would refund me a certain amount (less than the real value, cause contents were not been declared), and of course would not return post fee.
At June my counterpart asked to refund them the money paid. So far, still had not news from my post office.
Finally, at end of June, as my post office still did not gave me a final solution, I returned the full amount paid (USD 60), with their promise to repay if parcel would be delivered or found at any moment.
After middle of July, tracking service at my post office showed parcel was delivered, but did not show to who. Therefore, my post office would not pay me for the lose.
On July 22nd. The destination post office showed parcel was received, and receiver had to complete Custom House procedures to receive the parcel. I asked him to confirm, and to do the needed procedures, but he said they did not answer.
I tried several times to have news , but not responses.
I also tried to communicate to the destination post office, but they would only give the information to the one who had to receive.
Currently, the information at destination post office is "parcel not found". As per the people at my post office, after be declared as received, the status means either the parcel was delivered, or the custom house procedures were not fulfilled, so time for it has expired.
So far it's nearly 4 months I don't receive an answer. Last one, he only stated he would repay me if parcel was delivered to him.
As I just did it as a favor, I think I should not be the only loser, I paid money for the coin, for the post sending, used my time to go to buy the coin, make the packet, go to post office to send it, several phone calls to my post office, messages to my counterpart. I got nothing back, and I even had to return the money I have received. So far, I have lost all hope to receive any compensation, not even a thank you.
I'm sure this is the reason why so many people are not ready to help others, and for sure, I would think 3 times before doing something like this in future. I am sorry for those I will not help.
Only pending thing is that this was managed as a swap, partner never gave a feedback, and if he does it at any moment, and is not good, I would not accept it.
