Hello, I am thinking about buying this George III Shilling that is in a nice condition. I am wondering if someone could possibly get a rough estimate on what grade this coin may be. I estimate it to be at least a high AU grade or maybe even a low MS grade. I am also very much worried that the coin may have been cleaned at some point. Can anybody tell if the coin may have been cleaned in any way and how would you tell if a coin in general has previously been cleaned? Thank you all so much!!!
Hello Historybuff.
Not a bad George III Shilling but not AU to me more between VF/XF as the high points and worn as for being cleaned I don't know it may have been at some time in the past as for Value please take a look at the link below it will give some indication but if you like a coin and collect the ones you like sometimes cost is not the main factor in collecting.
The dirt I have the letters is always a give away, but it does appear sympathetically done at least. It is less than AU, I would expect to see this priced +/- £50

Thank you for that information. I have found another Shilling that says it was previously graded as AU, but I don't know if that is true or not. Here is a pic of it. What grade would you think this is? Thank You!
Thanks. I didn't really mean to post that picture here. Where does one find fault free examples? Money isn't necessarily an object for the right coin. Just about everything I see has been cleaned or is just overpriced and trashed.
This is a Henry VI Groat that has not been cleaned but the detail it has is exceptional though its cracked due to being Hammer'ed and has a scratch on the face of the King cleaning would ruin it so look out for coins that are a bit dirty they can be gems.
