So in those links both have the date lower right of obverse -
so if someone had a mule how could they tell,
as to me both (from those links) look the same.

Unless the first coin has a frosted portrait - but from your four pictures
that is not shown as such. Both on there look like the same obverse with one having the
date removed, and no frosting. Again just asking.

You're absolutely right ZacUK, the KM# 83 coins have a date on the obverse, so something is quite off with this documentation.

If you have got a 1988 COA (Coat of Arms) 50 cent coin you have got a Mule. You will know it because they are worth about AU$5,000​. Only two are known to exist.

What Ole has done is left the date off the first pic because KM#83 actually could have quite a few different dates.

The standard COA coin with the Makleouf portrait can only have these dates. 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 & 2019.

The COA Coin was not issued in 1988 because only the Bicentenial Commemorative 50cent coin was issued by the RAM in that year.

However two Mules are known to exist. They were created when a 1988 Obverse was mated with a Standard COA Reverse.

Yes they have. Mostly a picture tells more than 1000 words (so they say). But in this case the picture without the omitted date is a bit misleading. In this particular case I think it's better to completely remove the obverse picture of KM# 83 and replace it with the following text:
No coins with the COA were struck in 1988, so all the COA coins with the date 1988 are mules with the KM# 99 obverse.
