Hello,

I am struggling to identify this coin, had a look through Numista database, it doesn't appear to be there.

I think the year is 1277, and denomination might be 5 - but really I can't find anything similar online.

diameter 35mm. weight 16 grams, reeded edge
Thank you for your help in advance.

Denomination is 500. It looks to be a replica or counterfeit of this coin (year 8 ) based on the weight. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces34993.html
I agree with rsirian1. Also the original is in gold, this one in bronze.
Great, thank you - I was thinking it was indeed a number 500, although it couldn't have been 500 para.

The coin is definitely old, probably of that period, with appropriate wear / tear, and the quality of the strike is pretty much mint - someone had access to very good equipment to produce this coin.

How did they expect to get away with passing a copper coin for a gold one, that is the question.

Thank you for your help

Unless it was a pre-production / trial strike, to test the equipment before starting to mint the gold coins?

I guess that's possible but why the 8th year rather than the 1st year?

I was thinking that if the alloy was a brass (like yellow brass), when new it might have passed as being gold. Just a thought....
found it!

it is some sort of award / token from the original dies ...

:) So it seems it could have been made by the mint that made the gold coins as you suggested.
Seems to be so, now I will just need to find out what that award was for...

Thank you for your help, much appreciate it.
