Hi Everyone, I am after some educated advise about the average wear of Australian predecimal florins.

Backgound is I'm a hobby jeweller and about 10 years ago I bought 2kgs of 1947-1963 Australian florins with the intent of using them in jewellery. Time marches on and with the price of silver increasing I decided to move the coins on and advertised them as 50% scrap silver. I had a coin collector come and look at the parcel on the off chance I had something he was after. He immediately pointed out a couple of florins that were really different colours; more a bronzey looking colour than the oxidised silver look. He told me there were a lot of fakes around and I should run a magnet over them and weigh them. The 2 odd colour ones weighed 10.69gms and 10.99gms and are not magnetic. I then went through the rest of the parcel and found while most were spot on 11.31gms or within 0.04gms I found a cluster of 1947 florins that were 11.01 gms.

My question is would a difference of 0.3gms of wear be possible on a coin that was in circulation for nearly 20 years or are these likely to be fake?
I just got 4 of my Florins out dated 1921, 1922, 1927 & 1928. Together they weighed 45gram or 11.25gm each. These ones are .925 silver.

Then I got 4 of my Florins dated 1947, 1953, 1954 & 1956. Together they weighed 44gram or 11.0 gm each. These ones are .500 silver.

None of the Florins I have got are magnetic and I have got 19 of them from 1921 to 1963.

Hope this helps.
