Hello everyone

I have taken notice (and interest) in the idea of swapping coins. My question is, how would we go about doing this in a manner that assures the other person does not just run off with the coin? Is this purely honor system here?

Yep. If you have a lot of good real ratings, people will probably trust you.

Since you are new, people will probably ask for you to send first though because you have 0 ratings. You gotta start somewhere though
And, at the same time, you should start swapping with partners who have several good ratings first, so when they ask you to send first you know that they will honor their part of the deal as soon as they get your coins in the mail.
You can try to find partners in your town (the swaps section has a search by distance) and swap in person (in a public place) so you can start building your reputation.
After 5 to 10 positive ratings you shouldn't get more requests to send first.
And beware, scammers do pop-up from time to time, and the community does its best to keep them away. If a deal looks too good to be true, you should probably politely decline, or ask them to send first and see what happens.
Coin enthusiast, always learning
Yes, the honor system. You have been a member for 8 years now yet never had a swap and don't know how it works? How do we know you wont just run off with the coin(s)? Like everybody else, you have to start somewhere and build your reputation as a trustworthy swap partner. That would include you sending your coins first in most cases. The overwhelming majority of members here are trustworthy and have the successful transactions or swaps to prove it. Just be careful who you choose to swap with based on their history and you should not have a problem at all.
The first step in swapping is posting coins that you have available to swap. If you have coins that people are interested in then you will be able to swap. Personally I have a very limited number of coin types and so coins swaps don't happen much with me. I am more into the banknote side of swapping. List what you have and make a post that you have listed your duplicates and see if there is any interest.

I have set up my account here primarily as an easy way to keep track of my coin collection. I have made a few posts here in the past but aside from that its been primarily to look up coins and keep track of what I got. My "swaps" in the past have been primarily selling loose stuff on ebay and taking that money to buy something else online. But ebay has put in new requirements for selling that basically holds your money hostage until you give them your bank acct number and social security. The fewer places I have to upload that info online the better. Anyway, thanks for your help.
