Accidentally found this site. My objective is to have a coin from each country in the world; a coin that is the equivalent of the Canadian penny, nickel or dime. I am using these coins to teach my grandkids world geography. I may not be on the right site. So far, I have managed to acquire coins from about 80 countries, plus extras. Any help would be appreciated, even if it is to tell me this is not the site I should be using, and perhaps suggesting another? If this an acceptable usage of this site, would also appreciate directions on how to use it correctly.
Thank you
Grandpa B
Welcome Grandpa B, or NiCu (Nickel Copper)
You've come to the right place. To be able to get coins from people you'll need to have some for exchange. To enter your collection (or what you can offer people in a swap) go to search, look for a coin you own, click on the picture of the coin and you go to a "coin sheet" when there place numbers in the boxes under grades, if you are not interested in placing your collection here just place numbers of the coins you have for exchange in the exchange box.
If collectors are interested in your coins they'll offer a swap. Have a look through my swap list if you would like to swap with me. I have some cents from Zimbabwe...and a number of other similar coins. I can talk you through the swapping world when you offer a swap; or just send me a private message by clicking on bam777.
Wow Bam777, fast and excellent service - thank you. Am not a great computer-ist(?); I need a lot of patience on the part of the helper. I will take this learning curve slowly so that I do not make too many annoying and dumb mistakes. I have cousins in England, and when they have sent me coins, they never arrive; not sure if the thieves are on your side or my side of the postal service. Since the coins were not worth a great deal of money, we did not get too stressed about the situation--just stopped sending them. Interesting that you have Zimbabwe coins; just had a friend return from southern Africa and he was able to give me a coin from Namibia (badly chewed up!-lol) one from Mozambique, and a few from Malawi. When I received them, I thought to myself, would have been nice to have one from Zimbabwe.
As for swapping, I have nothing much of interest I would think, for an expert like yourself, but I will try to do as you say, and place the number of 'extra' coins I have in the exchange box. As I become more familiar with this site, will try to be more precise about what I have.
Again, note my interest, having a coin from each country of the world.
You said you could 'talk' me through this; perhaps I am being too literal, but I do not see a chat mode on here?
Thanks again Bam,
Bob
Well Grandpa Bob,
You praise me to much...and I am sure many members are laughing at your "expert" remark. Anyway, no chat, but I can rapidly reply to your questions if you reply to my Personal Message (PM) that I wrote you.
Well they may laugh, but I am such a newbie that I peer up at you from the base of the pedestal! So, already I have questions. I did not realize that my reply to you was 'public' to all, and secondly, I wrongly assumed apparently that I was replying to your PM?

Welcome.
I'm pretty much trying to do the same thing -- collect one from every country.
And yes, doing this really does help the youngsters learn geography (not to mention history).
You can take a look at my list and see if there are any that would interest you.
You aren't in the wrong place fella ! If you need any British pennies or euro ones gimme a shout. I have old big style pennies spare and not to mention the millions in circulation ha ! Have a few spare cents left over from holidays too
I have a similar objective. I have coins from 62 (out of the 193) UN members. I also have coins from other countries and territories including the Vatican, Taiwan, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, Hong Kong, New Caledonia and Bermuda and some countries that no longer exist like the USSR, Yugoslavia, East Germany and British colonies in Africa and Asia. Still a long way to go I hope I have some coins which could help you out
Trying to get a coin from each UN country with circulating coins. 20 to go!
With intention of the forum starter NiCu, to get as many coins from many countries as possible for teaching his grandkids, I think it's best to buy a coin lot from eBay, like this:
To swap here and there to get so many different countries, it's almost impossible in a short time. And you will face a lot of trouble of negotiating, sending and receiving,...
Verweis : Chasinva696.96 for shipping?
For US Numista members I'll sell 5 pounds bulk coins for $25 and the post office charges $4.95 - for total of $29.95.
Sounds like a good deal - I wish I lived in the US
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
