I am helping my 8 year old grandson identify some coins for his collection and Numista has usually helped us immensely.  This time I just have not been able to find this coin.  Can someone help us please?
Hello,

This is the coin you are looking for. Japan 1 Yen

Thank you so much!  I knew it was oriental, but I just didn't have enough info from just looking at the coin to search!
I was gonna post this exact same post. Thanks for the posting the question IreneA and for answering elvis123.
thats soo funny!! I posted this same question like a few days ago! Thank you for helping identify some coins
The date is 1972 (Year 47 of Shōwa's reign).

https://en.numista.com/numisdoc/calendar-japanese-34.html

On that page first type in the Emperor (two symbols on one key) then the one or two or three symbols for the year, then end wih the 'year' symbol, and the converter will show the date on top right (I added the purple borders). So you can then put a quantity on the collection page in 1972 year.  :)

I also wondered that if then  1972  47  1  was entered in the Search (1972 and 47 from Numisdoc results, and 1 symbol from coin), would it find the coin, and it did ...

Just in case anyone else has any oriental coins to find!  :wiz:

Thank you for the year identification ZacUK!  This date converter should really help - another one we found explained how to do but hard to follow. Our problem is sometimes just telling which symbols are on the coin - they are not always so clear.  We should probably invest in a better magnifier!  Grandma's eyes aren't so hot anymore. You guys are terrific and a good resource for newbies like us!
