Am I right in thinking that this could be a contemporary counterfeit?

I think that's a reasonable assessment. It certainly doesn't look like the real thing and it would be a very odd choice for modern counterfeiters to produce in this condition.

I would look through the Canadian tokens . May be a blacksmith token. Iam thinking it one of them.

I did not know that there was something called a blacksmith token. I thought that it looked very incomplete and badly made.
I have tried to make better fotos using a scanner.

​Yes I think it may be a Canadian currency token. I have not yet on the Internet found one quite like it. Hope someone on Numista will recognise it.

Yup, definitely not a Canadian token nor blacksmith.  

Looks like a contemporary counterfeit, which is quite common for this particular 1/2d.
