I'm curious to know where most of the gold France used to mint their gold coins came from. Especially between 1848-1870 France issued a massive number of gold coins. The US got a lot of gold from the California gold rush. The UK got a lot of gold from mines in Australia and later South Africa. Where did France get its gold?
