There is a scammer out there that you should all beware of! He is a person who has no feedback, no country, and claims to speak French. His username is:

A****y78

I hope that in the next few days, he wil be removed from Numista. I am happy to help keep this great site free of scammers!

I know this post might attract an argument, by posting on this thread you agree not to blame me for damages caused by the argument!  :O
Witch kind of problem did you have ?
did you contact Xavier ?
or just have bad feeling ?

It was not a bad dealing, he refused to photograph the coins, and he insisted that I sent first.
What the heck is a scammer ?

Could it be that it just has been a newbie....?

First of all when someone registers at Numista everyone has got no
rating, because how to get a rating when you haven´t swapped already...
Just tell him you think it´s fishy when he has got no complete profile,
and that he has to name you his address before the swap can start, and maybe try it
with registered mail, then....
(without guarantee, of course)
Either by luck or good design Numista has been largely free of cheats, liars, thieves, scam artists and other assorted trash. However this is still the interwebz which has it's own reality.

When there have been periodic visits from cheats, they have been fairly easy to spot although we have a few who are a little more devious among our ranks now. The less sophisticated types use the same modus operandii - sign up, list a few hundred silver coins, set up a few trades, get free coins, vanish. If you are being offered a too-good-to-be-true deal by someone who has just arrived at the website then there is a very high probability you are about to get fleeced.

Here are the red flags:

Large quantities of silver coins from a variety of countries. Many of us collect world silver but realistically what are the chances of someone from a poor country having thousands of dollars worth of DUPLICATE coins?

Zero or little feedback. We all start off that way but new members have an obligation to understand that it's THEY who are the risk, not a long established member with a long, unblemished trading history. Be prepared to mail your coins first if you are new.

No country specified. As postage costs and delivery reliabilty are two of the more important issues in a trade, why would anyone wish to conceal this information? Get serious or GTFO.

PO Boxes. These are used by many honest collectors for security and privacy reasons. They are also used by serial crooks once their addresses become known. It's also not possible to have delivery confirmation or signed for mail sent to a PO Box.

Don't ever mail coins to a "care of" address.

Don't allow yourself to be rushed or pressured into a trade. Take your time. Many of the coins we cherish have been around for hundreds of years - they are not going anywhere!

Don't let concerns over thieves ruin your enjoyment and deprive you of the opportunity to make friends with some of the nicest collectors anywhere while filling gaps in your albums. For every dishonest person there are a hundred decent ones.

Information is your best friend. If you suspect there is an active thief among us, send a PM and warn your friends. If you see someone being set up for a scam, warn them! Expect the same in return. Numista is far better than other venues such as Facebook or ColNet in terms of the quality of it's members. Let's keep it that way!
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Very well put, Phil, I couldn't agree more.
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

Former coin and banknote catalogue referee.
As usual, an eloquently put piece. I think friends is definitely a term I can use for some of the members. I've been helped out by friends on here. Traded with and chatted with collectors. I have learned things from friends and been given sound advice by friends.
I love Numista and hope it will survive spammers, scammers, and trolls.

This guy seems to have a never ending supply of Russian silver coins, including tons not on his swap list.
I still can't work out who he is.

I am posting this on the French forum, 'cause that's where he posts his "swap offers".
Also refer to https://en.numista.com/forum/topic11727.html, since A****y78 has created a new account, by the the name of D****r1 (hint: American money). He has also created feedback between the two accounts.
He also joined on Oct. 1. He had to put in his coins, finalize a swap, mail the coins, and he got feedback on Oct. 4.  He would be the fastest swapper ever.

Yeh, and someone else almost got cheated by him on the French side of the forum.
