Look at this listing, someone paid $3000 for a 20-40 dollar coin.

I can't think of anything else then money laundering. American antique business is known for that. If you look at the sellers completed auctions, you will be amazed. If these are genuine sales, this guy is the king of overpriced coin sales, he should get an award for selling coins with a 10000% premium and getting away with it.
I have often thought the same regarding coin sales in the UK. Staggering figures asked for fairly mundane everyday coins, and £2.5k postage.
Certainly eBay must love the guy for all the fees they're collecting.
yes ebay is a major money laundering conduit.
yes ebay knows they are getting a cut of that major flow.
this is why all transactions must now go through bank accounts, no more cash or paypal.

Ebay still accepts Paypal. You just have to sign on to Paypal directly.
you can pay with,
but not to receive payments.

I don't understand.

When I purchase an item on eBay, I pay with Paypal and the eBay seller receives money from Paypal.

Got it, thanks.
They are hoping people think Shiny + Old = Expensive. Still not as bad as the crap on Etsy.
Verweis : "Paolo Nelson"eBay just robs me sometimes.
No they don't. You ask to do business on their platform and they tell you exactly how much they will take in fees, and you agree to it. That's not robbery; that's called capitalism.
i see things like this:

but never see anybody bid on it
this is the question.
it is simply impossible that some one would pay $10000000 for a parking lot damaged coin,
so, if not to actually sell the item, what is the purpose of the listing?
does it contribute to the google business listing or something like that?

I've actually seen this guys stuff fairly often since he sells in areas i collect. I always wanted to send an offer for the actual value and see if he accepts it. He routinely lists Austrian 100 Schilling coins for example around $450 when they are usually a $20 coin. So to me it is very strange yet he seems to do a lot of business. So either he accepts offers at the actual value or im missing something i guess
The British press don’t help with ridiculous stories like the brexit 50p is extremely rare and worth £20,000, then every get rich quick merchant in the country lists one for stupid prices.
