My first "swap confirmed"... With a lot of help, and a mistake or 2 on, I managed to fumble through my first exchange. A Small swap within the U.S., just a few coins. The swap was confirmed last night and coins dropped in the mail this morning. An envelope and a couple of stamps, and we're off to the races.

The shipping part was fairly simple, once I got the hang of masking the contents. This, sort of, has me wanting to attempt an international swap. Something close, like a quick hop over the border into Canada.. Question is, would it be as simple as an envelope and some stamps? I was on the USPS site figuring postage and I saw the customs form link; is that really required for a letter into Canada?

you just write hobby supplies mate :)
I have received coins inthe past from Canada.  From a few eBay auctions. And I don't recall ever seeing anything like that written on the mailer. I just assuned that the seller just shipped it like àny other parcel.

Sometimes you don't have to - depends on the weight. The last package I sent to the US didn't have to but the one before did, and I have this time sending my coins to phil lol
Hello,

In Canada most of the time it is not needed to put a customs form on. Most postal officials don't care whats in it. Customs forms are mostly used for packages (boxes). The only time you have to put a customs form on a letter in Canada is if they can feel it is not paper. If you pack it right they cannot tell. I have done about 30 swaps on a few sites and have only had to put a customs form on twice. I don't know if it is the same in the States.

Regards
My local PO insists on customs forms for Canada but it not a bad thing. Just don't put "rare gold coins" or I'll guarantee the package won't arrive. Oh, and don't put down any high values or the package will be held at customs until the recipient pays any import tax.

The customs form is in 3 parts, once the clerk has attached the form you will be given back the third part complete with cancellation stamp. At the top of the paper you will see a series of two letters, several numbers, then two more letters. You can use this to track the parcel as far as the US border (proof you mailed it) and even beyond if the recipient country uses the same type of mail scanners.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Customs forms?

I've sent coins to France without needing to do anything except drop it in the big blue USPS box.

Now that's what I'm talking about, B) , I like your style !!  :D  A few coins should be that simple from U.S. to Canada. From what I read on USPS web site, collectible coins can be sent regular mail. And if an envelope contains only documents it doesn't need a customs form. (can you tell where I'm heading with this ?)
