Over the last year, I've started collecting Civil War tokens as part of my broader interests and am hoping those with more experience than I can help me understand the background of this one. From what I understand this is one of the very few anti-war "patriotic" Civil War tokens out there, but am unsure as to who paid to produce it. From what I can find it was either made by one of the Copperhead groups that were sympathetic to the southern cause, or alternatively, a pacifist group that was opposed to all war as a matter of principal. There are numerous references to this token on line but very little about it's origin. Does anyone know more about the history of this piece?
