Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Australian 50 Cent

I got this coin today from the Royal Australian Mint. I have updated the pictures/drawings we had on Numista with actual pictures of my coin.

I have to say it looks awesome when you see the real coin.

Given that the size and composition are identical to the circulating 50¢ coin, it's a missed opportunity that they have not issued it for circulation as well.

As we saw in the long thread on the Platinum Jubilee, very few coins were issued (I added one recent new NCLT from Canada), and so far a single circulating coin (UK) plus a few NCLTs from the UK, Australia and Canada and some of the small islands which issue only NCLTs.

Just released this morning. The first of 3 coins. Have created entries which are now visible in the catalogue.

It's interesting that they have waited till now to issue these. I suppose it matches the several months between the actual anniversary (Febryary 6th) and the official celebrations in London. 

I had assumed that, as usual with the mints, the official date would be the occasion for all these releases, but actually in this case it looks like most coins and NCLTs were not released on February 6th, which turned out to be a rather quiet day.

The Royal Australian Mint usually releases new NCLT coins on the first Thursday of each month. Don't ask me why they just do. So the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee coin was released on Thursday the 5th of May.

Unusually it was announced a few weeks before on the 4th of April with an image of the coin. Normally the RAM does not release images of new coins until the actual release date.
