What is this?
N#205476

If this listing refers to the 1938 pattern Half Crown [http://www.irishcoinage.com/NEWSINDEX.HTM#1938hc], then it is KM# 16, Sp# 6633, and should be included under this listing: N#10970,  in the same manner that the 1938 Penny is included in this listing: N#1406

May I suggest that a referee who is knowledgable about the subject matter be appointed for Irish coins.

Actually you have it backwards.  The first is a pattern with SCWC number Pn2.  It should have a separate page (as it does).  The “KM” number Pn2 should be added.

The second should be split.  The 1938 pattern is Pn1 and should be split from KM# 11.

Currently there is no referee for Ireland.

Edit:  And obviously both the pattern coin and the circulating coin pages should have a reference link to each other.

That would seem logical, if patterns are to be listed separately.

However, there is no such entity as the 'Dominion of Ireland' which issued coinage.

As the coin is an ‘Éire’ coin, the title of the page should be '½ Coróin / 2 Scilling 6 Pingin', under 'Period Republic (1937-date)'.

It might be useful to have a referee appointed for Ireland.

I never said the page was perfect  😁, just that patterns are separate from the coins they represent.  It looks like the 1938 pattern was added to the KM# 11 page recently (within the last year or so).  It should never have been approved.  A very quick check of SCWC would have showed that:

A new listing for the pattern has been created and the 1938 line has been deleted. 🤗

Slava Ukraini and Free Palestine!

That’ was fast! Looks better now.
I spotted the anomaly when I was looking through the early Irish coins. Hiberno-Norse are those that interest me, rather than modern coins.

I am sure we can get images for these two 1938 coins in due course.

Are improved images of Irish coins be of interest in general? I can upgrade the 1928-37 coins with scans of BU examples for a start, and would do so if there is someone to approve the uploads.

Improved images are always welcome, just keep these guidelines in mind when taking/uploading them.

I've just requested the removal of references to “Dominion of Ireland” from a few coins that it had somehow been added to. I add my voice to the calls for a referee to be appointed. As referee for Irish notes, I'd be happy to take up the role at least until someone with better knowledge of the early coins can be found.

Former Numista referee for banknotes from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Saint Helena.

Ireland actually became a republic on 18 April 1949.

Between 29 December 1937 & 17 April 1949, Ireland was actually a Dominion inside the British Commonwealth with King George VI as head of state - King of Ireland.

Frankly, the currency unit names should be in English, as that is what they are known by internationally & in the major catalogues.

You should be one of the referees for Ireland - both banknotes & coins.
