2nd Swap in a row now that I got cleaned coins!!!!!

I'm sick and tired of this.

And for some reason both swappers seem to be respectable collectors as they have good rates etc.
But both do not answer my messages?!

Am I from a different planet to expect people to mention when the coins are cleaned?!
Because I certainly do not want any cleaned coins, I rather flush them through the toilet then add them to my collection.
I think lots of people are confused of what is considered a cleaned coin. As there were a few threads related to cleaning coins you can see that different people do different things. Would you consider a coin to be cleaned if I gently wipe it with a cleanex, for example?
What I consider to be cleaned (obviously) is old copper coins 1800s, being worn by usage but shining so I can shave myself in them, that is what I have received.
I see. Good point. I'd be disappointed as well.
And the thing is that I do not want to jump to leaving bad feedback right away, but both of them do not respond to my messages.

I wish the monitors here could act as mediators sometimes when it comes to situations like this.
I appreciate it would be helpful, but you need to sort it out with the member. Wait for them to get in touch.
Well that's what I do, but being ignored is not what makes me the most reasonable of persons.
I was going to say that maybe the don't recognise a cleaned coin but what you are describing is going a step beyond cleaning and actually polishing the coins. That's as clear as having a hole in the coin and really ought to be disclosed.

Lightly cleaned coins will eventually reaquire their patina, I have about a dozen of them sitting on the sunniest windowledge in the house in the hope that one day they will look normal again. It's supposed to work but I can't say I've noticed any change. I really doubt that a highly polished coin will ever recover.

Maybe you could make them into coat buttons.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

You are abnormal and an extremist. ;)

I've picked up nicer coins rolling around the windy intersection of Portage and Main, than what passes for MS in many second rate and international grading services.

Here lies an unmentioned benefit of participating in our hobby, in the same geographic regions that the world's best grading services (PCGS, NGC, ICCC, etc.) operate. We have exposure to a level of expertise and integrity not found in the rest of the world. I do not care to have my coins slabbed or graded, but I take great comfort in using this available expertise and integrity as a reference.

I have expressed in great detail, my expectations regarding the condition of coins in many swaps. I've mentioned or asked about possible hairlines, wipe marks, lack of patina, lack of haze, colour of copper, etc. prior to commencing a trade or eBay purchase. This has served me well. I still manage to get suckered in by the odd eBay photo, where emotion takes over, no questions are asked, photo looks great and I end up with a cleaned coin.

I like older silver Polish coins. I prefer to pay more and get the uncleaned examples from a reputable US dealer/seller, than from the country of orgin, where cleaning cutlery and coins every Sunday seems to be a common ritual.

I share your frustration.
