5 Złotych (Moszna Castle) - Poland – Numista

The commemorative 5 Złotych coins are marked as circulating commemorative but from my knowledge these coins are not meant to be circulated. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Could you get them at face value?

Could you get them at face value?

I’ve gone to the NBP and gotten them for I believe face value.

I have not seen them in circulation. I was in Poland on several occasions from April - October in 2022, with around 3 months spent in Poland in central Mazuria. Using cash on a daily basis.

The government doesn't release  them in to circulation.

… non circulating then.

So all the coins need to be changed. I will make the requests.

A pity they don't circulate, that 5 Zł is a very attractive design.

Feel free to send modification requests. As there is nothing for admins to change, I will mark it as done.

I must disagree with this… in my opinion all these coins are circulating commemorative. They all are issued without any packaging (unless you but full pack of 50 pieces) and can be used in circulation. I was in National Bank and changed 100 PLN into 20 pieces of this 5zl coin… I put 2 or 3 into circulation because I needed 5zl and had no standard one at the time…

Classic example like most of 2€ coins (excluding these issued only on cards).

But of course, mintage is 1 milion so comparing to hundreds of milions for standard 5zl it's not easy to find it in circulation. 2018 commemorative issue (100th Ann of Independency) had mintage 38 milions (one piece for each Polish, I guess) and I noticed it in circulation maybe 3-4 times during the 5 years.

What about United States $1 coins? They have not been issued for circulation since 2012, are not used in regular commerce, and are able to be ordered for face value. Unless coins are actively being shipped to banks or other institutions for circulation, they should be listed as non-circulating.

I stay by the rule of thumb if you can get it at face and especially if it looks like/very similar to the regular coins they are circulating CCs.

The other way you could say very popular regularly issued coins (not only through banks/ post offices etc. at face), that get taken very fast out of circulation aren't circulating CCs.

I understand this phrase:

"On 23 May 2022, Narodowy Bank Polski is putting into circulation a commemorative
coin of the series “Discover Poland” –
“Moszna Castle”, with a face value of 5 złoty"

as a confirmation that coin is circulated commemorative. It cannot be even “bought” from NBP like collectors coins, it can be only “changed” (swaped) as this change is with face value.

Full leaflet here (english version):

https://www.nbp.pl/banknoty_i_monety/monety_okolicznosciowe/2022/2022_10___moszna_en.pdf

This coin and all other from series are distributed only by Narodowy Bank Polski but are (were) avaliable on all 16 regional offices of the bank so people can go into and change their banknotes for these coins for face value, like I did. Then, I can use these coins in all machines because this is circulation standard (size, weight). Mintage of 1 milion pieces in the country with 38M peoples is too much for the collectors only. This is issued with intend to circulate and is easy to get this coin in each bigger city, from NBP regional offices.

Don't know how it look with US dollars.

Taking into account its mintage, the opinion of people who live in Poland and can use these coins, the technical characteristics (the same as the non-commemorative ones), for me it should be left as a commemorative circulating coin.

I would even say, I suppose against the opinion of the majority, that currencies like this are “Circulating coin”

 I say this because for me, a circulating coin is a the one that, if you take it out of its packaging, you can pay with it without problems. In recent years it has become fashionable to "package" coins, make a short mintage and sell them at an astronomical price, but the important thing for me is, if I take this coin out of its precious packaging/set/coincard/etc, I can pay with her? Many more examples with the 2 euro commemorative, can I pay with this coin?

The answer is yes.

The answer is yes.

The coin doesn't come with packaging and the only way to get it is to visit the NBP office. It is not intended for circulation, and they are not sold for an extra price.

Perhaps a new thread would be a better forum for discussion than the current one?

How it could be not intendend for circulation if the NBP say that they are “putting it into circulation”. See the link that I mentioned above.

To be honest didn't read all comments. What i can say is that all 5 zł are circulating commemorative coins https://www.nbp.pl/homen.aspx?f=/en/banknoty/kolekcjonerskie/2014.html

A statement from the bank  says that you can get them at face at NBP, This is exactly the same situation as 2 euro coins. If numista team changes to non-circulating coin all 2 euro CC should be also changed as non-circulating coins because this is the same situation.

By NBP:

2. Collector items include:
1) gold and silver collector coins;
2) collector notes;
3) numismatic items:
a) notes and coins that have not been put into circulation,
b) notes and coins withdrawn from circulation;
4) sets of collector items – collector items put together in one package, according to specific criteria, as listed in items 1 to 3;
5) one-ounce gold coins.

All 5 zł commemorative coins were put into circulation.
by NBP;

On 22 May 2014,  Narodowy Bank Polski will be putting into circulation a coin from the series “Discover Poland – 25 Years of Freedom”

If any of you have doubts please ask at the Polish National Bank they will reply to you.
