Below are photos of UAE P-26a and b. P-26a appears to be missing the grey arms at the center of the note. The note does not appear to be chemically washed. Has anyone heard reports of this error on other notes of the UAE? Opinions please?

In general, all banknotes from Arabian peninsula and Northern Africa are top quality and durable with very few reported high quality counterfeits. It is highly possible that error is genuine, however, i dont know how meaningful is that error and would it bring added numismatic value. For definite opinion you would have to grade this banknote if it makes sense financially to you. My opinion is that the mark is simply worn out due to heavy usage of the banknote + possible exposure to water and later wear. I have no single doubt that your banknote is genuine

The ‘grey’ arms is more of a metallic ‘silver’ on a new note.  Under high magnification this area looks raised and partially reflective.  I have seen many well-circulated notes of all denominations with this feature partially worn off.  It is placed on the centerline where the note is most often folded.  It is not a good design feature, especially in a region with high temperatures where handling notes with sweaty hands will certainly transfer oil and sweat.  My opinion is heavy-use circulation.

They appear to be different years, also the sun is very bright and strong in that part of the world, the sun could have bleached the banknotes.

I think it’s due to the sun and being heavily circulated.

Here’s my notes

2013 5 Dirhams gotten from circulation January 2023.

2015 5 Dirhams gotten from circulation October 2018.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

I would say, someone had this note left in their pants when doing their launderette. It is unlikely due to exposure to the hot sun, as money is usually kept in a pocket, wallet or purse. In my opinion, this is one banknote that has been truly laundered.

The other possibility, as mentioned by some here, is due to wear and tear

This is just my opinion.
