Hi!

Does anyone have material on this coin? - N#123994

I am unable to find anything about it online except on numista and there isnt a lot about it on the site. Its the only composition of its type I have seen on the side (Gold plated Platinum) and I wanted to know more.

Thanks.

The Earth is a Triangle

Platinum was used to forge silver (then more valuable then platinum) and gold coins and confiscated platinum was thrown into the sea.

So maybe this is a contemporary counterfeit. You'll have to look up the reference mentioned where this page most likely comes from.

I can find nothing specifically on the dated 1771 P R claim of gold plated platinum anywhere else.  There is a reference of a dated 1771 N R VJ as KM#41 and listed as gold. There is a reference to a dated 1771 P N J  listed as KM#38.2 and listed as gold. The 1776 P SF and 1778 P SF on the Numista page you referenced are listed as KM#50.2 and lists it's composition as  gold as well.   Possibly confusion or a typo with the 1771 P R   Numista  page reference and this coin simply does not exist ? There is not even a photo of the alleged coin.

Edit. Same topic about “gold plated platinum coin” claims.

I probably have one of the finest collection of Spanish CCC Pt/Au, Pt, Au/Cu & Pt/Ag collections in the Western Hemisphere. If your still around - INQUIRE with any questions.
