So when checking I get  1815

I found this online too but the material of what I have is more like steel other than bronze

These medals where I think struck in Bronze or in silver.

Could it be silver which is tarnished?

It's magnetic hence why I suspect steel

Then possibly a later cast restrike? On the edge there are no marks?

French medals after 1830 or so usually have marks on their edge.

No marks on the outer edge that's smooth.

It's a mystery one I can't seem to crack

Reference numbers for this medal are

Bramsen 1665

and

Slg. Julius 3395

Engravers are Jean-Pierre Droz and Jean-Bertrand Andrieu

Here also an example in Bronze but with a darker look to it.

magnetic , that is, sticks to a magnet, means nickle as well as iron. pure nickle looks pretty close to silver, but dam does it love a magnet. hard as iron! then you start adding copper, until you get to about 15% copper, it doenst like the magnet anymore, but it doesnt look like silver any more either. its a fine line that cu-ni alloy in silver coin fakery.

edit to say, not fake,  in cases like this, exactly,  but contemporary  inexpensive copy
