Hi everyone,

Soon I'll be visiting Tunisia and I'd like to get my hands on some UNC local notes. Does anyone have experience with the central bank in Tunis? Do they give out UNC notes (to foreigners)?

I saw that there is a money museum in the building, so that could be a good sign. 🙂

Thanks for your help,

If anyone is interested, I just came back from Tunisia and the experience with the Central Bank was great. They absolutely have no issue with people going there and asking for to exchange circulated Tunisian notes to UNC ones. In fact, they also help me get the four notes from the 2011-2013 issue in the best condition they could find.

Next to the Central bank building there is the Money museum, open from Tuesday to Sunday, with a small exhibition about coins (mostly) and notes and a good shop where to buy all Tunisian notes out of circulation.

Fun fact, when I first withdrew Dinars from an ATM at the airport I got 40 pieces of 20TD in UNC condition, :D

Nice to see you had a good experience.

What was the commission at the ATM?

Was it easy finding ATM's outside the airport? Did small businesses prefer card or cash?

Great story. Glad they were helpful and welcoming. One of my favorite things when traveling is collecting the current coins and currency in circulation. More fun than a coin show or shop for me.

That's a super experience!

It's great when a Central Bank or a bank are so helpful like that.
