Mexican 8 Real anomaly

Recently I picked up the following 8 Reales from a reputable eBay seller. I did my usual tests of checking the weight, diameter, and seeing if it pings when dropped. Both diameter and ping check out, but testing the weight reveals it to be .4 to .5 grams overweight. Not sure what to make of it since it seems real to be otherwise, if a weakly struck. I figure by the 1890s the mints would have been quite strict about letting overweight coins through. I emailed the seller who said they got it in a bulk bag while stationed at the Mexican-American border, and has sold most of them with me being the first complaint.

Not sure what to make of it. I certainly don't want to return it, but half a gram of weight difference seems a little much to me.

Many of the predecimal silver from the various mints vary in weight and size. Your coin looks legitimate

Less than 2% over nominal weight. That's less than typical tolerances for mints today.

A copper-nickel counterfeit would be 10-15% underweight…

Kenny G is correct here. Its legitimate and these vary in weight. Besides C&R CCC's are RARELY overweight!
