1946 major error penny?

anyone know if this is worth anything? Im no expert but I'd sure have to think this is major and very rare error! Not sure what happened to the back of the penny but it doesnt look like it was just ground off or something! Any info would be much appreciated!

What you have is a coin with a lot of PMD (Post Mint Damage), which is nothing special at all.

Ask yourself this, “How did this super rare major error penny go from one hand to another to another to another for 78 years until it fell into your hands without anyone recognizing the super rare error?”  PMD, worth 1 penny.

then why is the lettering at the top all cut off? I can think of lots of ways rate coins get out into circulation, because people are ignorrant! I work on ATMs and coin sorting machines, see it ALL THE TIME.

You are absolutely correct! Luckily you can often distinguish them because of their poor spelling…

I would melt it down if you could not see one or the other or both sides of the coin 

Only melt common date coins damaged below AG-3 if the coin is worth 4-25 cents in g-4
