I have a 1855 French 10 Centimes with the front engraving of Napoleon inlaid into the coin. Never heaard of an inlaid coin and wonder if this could be real.

I have seen object such as this or also Schraubmedaillen as we call them in Germany.

I have seen quite a few from WWI era as trench art.

this might have been made once by a French soldier in the Franco-Prussian war and could have once contained an image or something else from a loved one.

as you see I used words such as might or could so what is was exactly used for might never come to light.

Thank you for the information. I have never heard of this before. the inlay is very precise.

Careful work in the lathe. Not difficult, given good tools.
