Russia 1904 10 Roubles (questionable authenticity)

Hey Numista Community,

I recently acquired a gold coin (see photos below) and I'm a bit uncertain about its authenticity. The weight and purity seem to be in line with the specs given in the catalogue. I'm hoping to get some expert opinions from fellow collectors here.

Could anyone provide me with tips or methods to determine if this coin is indeed authentic? Are there specific tests or characteristics I should be looking for?

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Best regards,

Scythian

What makes you think it isn't authentic?  I see nothing to worry about there.  Gold is too heavy to get the weight, diameter and equally importantly, the thickness all correct with any other metal.  So if all three of those are correct, I'd say it is safe to say it's authentic.  Are you concerned it's not truly gold or that it is gold, but a counterfeit?  If you just wish to determine for sure it's gold, it can be done harmlessly a few ways-a drop of vinegar should not discolor it, it should be repelled by a magnet and gold is so heavy, it should sink instantly in a cup of water.  Or any local coin shop should have a detector to confirm the gold content for you.  The details of the coin all look correct to me though.

Thanks for your input! I’m not an expert, but the fields on the reverse, particularly above the eagle, have suspicious parallel scratches, and the lettering on the rim looks odd.

They are traces from dies polishing. They shall be prominent, not incuse like scratches.
