I am new to collecting coins & know nothing about this coin…. Any information would be appreciated

Looks like a depiction of a chrysanthemum flower in the right picture which indicates Japan. Also looks like Japanese or Chinese symbols on the left picture.  Can you provide weight and diameter? There are many experts here that can help.

You should try Numista image search on your coins. Most will be identified. On the coin page click the camera image to the right of "add filters". Also check in Exonumia.

There are also a couple of cell phone apps that can identify most common coins.
