It's easier to get an all in focus picture and you can take them of many at the same time but scanned coin pictures make even UNC coins look dead IMO.

Try it, it works fine. Then decide if the image suits your needs.
The only benefit I have found to the scanner is that you can do 50 coins at once.
For a true high res experience, in my opinion, there is just nothing better than a SLR camera

I bought a cheap digital microscope that plugs into my laptop. seems to work ok for me.
Which microscope did you use? And how do you position it?
I once bought one, but as the minimum magnification was 60x, getting macro pictures was not really possible.
Here's the web address (I hope) of the digital microscope that I bought.

Nice pics Merv .. It is a pity that the UK pages on Numista uses drawing from the Royal Mint instead of pictures of real coins from Members.

Thanks Mike,
I have only got Windows 7 on my laptop so I can't use the program that crops around the odd shape coins for a white background.
I used the coloured background for some of my items I have to swap , just to make them stand out a bit more.
Also Mike , VERY NICE pictures with your new phone camera.
Cheers, Merv
@Merv , I think you can do white background online from the laptop: https://pixlr.com/fr/remove-background/
Yes, Pixlr works well. You just have to convert file from png to jpg Format for numista.
you can do that in Paint.
I use https://png2jpg.com/
I've been scanning my coins for a while now, I used to take photos on my phone and the quality wasn't as good, here's a scan I done
Hi Amateur_Collector1992,
I hope you don't mind but I have the removed the grey looking background caused by the scanner. I think that the white surround makes the coin stand out really well, only took a couple of minutes using m/s paint .

Regards, Merv.

I use the Leuchtturm (Lighthouse) bought on Amazon (x300):

Can you both show how you position your microscope to take the pictures? With that kind of magnification, I reckon you need to put them up quite high, right?
I don't have a propper stand to mount mine on, I just sit it on a pile of dvd's & adjust the height to fit the coin size then adjust the focus.
I had one like that some time ago, but father XMas brought me the the Lighttower, which is perfect. The other went to my grand children.

Buy yourself a Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 flat bed scanner, download both EasyScan & PhotoScape - then you are good to go.
This is a result that bore fruit, as it were.
Aidan.
Honestly, I don't find the result very enticing?
personally I use a digital microscope which I find excellent to take photos of my coins.
