I finally took the time to look at the 2023 Annual Report of the Royal Canadian Mint. On page 96 (near the very end) one finds this table:
As you can see, the mintages are quite low for all regular (i.e. non-commem) issues. Most notable is the 5 cents with a mintage of only 28,422,000 in 2023 compared to 83+ and 68+ millions in 2022 and 2021 respectively.
In another thread on May 4th I pointed out how I had already received a 2024 10 cents in my change, suggesting that the 2023 was therefore probably very low. Based on the figures in the table, they were probably more in a hurry to strike quarters before December 31st. As a matter of fact, of the 2023 coinage I've seen so far only three quarters, all from the same roll at the grocery store.
Now the good news is that the 2023 coinage is unlikely to gain much value – i.e. it should be reasonably easy to obtain for all collectors, old and young, rich and of more modest means. I say this because one can still obtain without too much difficulty a 1991 quarter even though the mintage was only 459,000.
