Hello All,

I am a fairly new collector. Its been  absolutely amazing getting coins issues in south India between 1700-1900 by east India company, travancore, pudukottai, Hyderabad.   I have largely got only copper coins for < 500 Rs.

question: I stumbled across some videos on YouTube that take about fake coins and now I am worried some of my coppper coins are fake. I got the coins from different shop and some online

Is it worth the effort to fake coins that are sold for less than 500 Rs?

Perhaps post a couple of coins that you are unsure of and then maybe we can advise,  a few years back there was an Ebay seller called Verokamath who produced hundreds of Indian copper coins of all types, even common ones, and fooled even well known collectors. To this day I think nobody worked out how they were made, the only clue is the  chocolate colour of the metal.  it was discussed on Facebook coin forums which  ended up with him going into hiding.

Here are some examples:

1. Thinking of bidding on this

2. Purchased this

3. Purchased this

4. purchased this

They all look o.k to me including the one your thinking of bidding on, the ageing on that one looks to be original and would be hard to fake

Amazing thank you! Very helpful
