East Africa Company Mombasa one rupee variation or error or fake?

I recently bought this 1988 one-rupee Mombasa, Imperial east Africa company. Later I found out it was missing the two dots in between ONE RUPEE and MOMBASA. I looked for variation but found no information on it. Can anyone confirm whether its fake or variation or error. Thanks in advance.

Compared to a known good 1888H coin it doesn't look right.

There is casting on the E of RUPEE, hopefully you can return it
