Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding a denari. It was minted in the 12th century for Western Pomerania, but it was minted either in Demmin or Stettin. Where should I add it?

Link to the denari/auction listing: https://onebid.pl/pl/monety-pomorze-zachodnie-denar-bez-daty-1180-ok-1183-szczecin-lub-dymin/1489848

Kind regards!

Update:

I checked another denari from the same era and place. This one is clearly listed as being minted in Demmin. It has the same symbolic and a similar legend, atleast partially. Here's a comparison of the coins.

(Coin with uncertain mint)

(Coin above according to Dannenberg. Text, reverse: KASTRV

This could mean either castle or Kasimir, who was the ruler of Pomerania-Demmin)

(Coin certainly from Demmin, it has both BVGVZLAVS (For Boleslaus, the Duke of Pomerania-Stettin) and CASE[…]LAVS, standing for Casimir)

I'd say that the coin was most likely minted in Demmin, just like the one above, but I can't be 100% sure. There are a lot of similarities between them. But I'm still looking for other opinions.

Final update:

It seems like the seller didn't fully read the catalogue. Here's an excerpt

This talks about the coin before, which was Dannenberg Po 19. This right here is a description of this coin, which identifies the mint as ‘Schlawe’, or the modern city of ‘Sławno’ in the West Pomeranian voivodenship.

So in the end, it was neither Stettin, nor Demmin. It was a different mint all along.
