I just purchased this 20 Kreuzer today and am a bit worried as I cannot find a gold version online. I purchased it from a reputable dealer at the local coin shop. I know I can get a refund if this is fake however before I jump the gun I was wondering if anyone here could clear things up.

As sold the coin was said to be from the Günzburg mint and designated as KM 2143.

Any information on why the coin is gold is appreciated.

Hello,

weighing the coin would help a lot with determining whether it is fake or not. My two guesses would be:

A) gold plating

B) very strong gold patina. This is more likely since there is some other toning on the right.

Kind regards.

Looks like ex-jewellery so gilded could be very likely if it's not just the lighting.

I just weighed it. My scale says it weighs 6.76 grams which is very close to the info that came with it that claims the coin weighs 6.74 grams.

If it’s the same thickness & diameter than the silver , then it’s not gold

It is indeed. I'm leaning to it being thinly gold plated. I suppose it just adds value.

I think just the opposite.  Not enough gold to increase melt value but enough to lower numismatic value because of the PMD.

Greatest apologies I primarily meant metal value. I fully agree with the lowering of numismatic value as I have already decided to try to sell it or get a refund. It was supposed to be my first gold coin so now I'm only interested in getting rid of it.

Get the refund. The dealer should have never sold it as authentic knowing it was plated post mint. Unless they didn't know…..

Dealer definitely did not know. He's mostly in the jewelry business and has little knowledge of European coinage. He's selling 2 other gold-plated coins, which I plan to correct him on my next visit.

I am taking the opportunity to get more than I paid at either the local gold exchange or a pawn shop as I only paid $100 Canadian on this one. If I can not get more than I paid, then I'll definitely get a refund.

3.5 Gr of silver. You won’t get a 100$. Save your time and go back to the shop for a refund

Under that plating gold there is an old coin in vf+, almost xf condition.

The refund is a question of the price you paid, for less than 20€ i would kerp it.

PS i didn't read completly, value is far away from 100 can$, try the refund.
