1874 H (Heaton Mint) Penny with the 7 [from 1874] almost touching the "H"

Hi,

I wondered if someone could help with a query. I have a number of 1874 H (Heaton Mint Mark) Pennies.

About a month ago I bought a world coin album and have been sorting out the British Coinage which has given me a few upgrades.

The album contained one 1874 H Penny that looks (given the condition) as if it might have been a metal detector find.

Looking closer it is different from my other examples. The 7 (in 1874) is at an angle a lower than the “18..”  and the “tail” of the 7 almost touches the H mint mark.

Apologies in advance for the quality of the images

It would be great to hear from anyone who has seen this before !

Thank you for your help

P.S. I have finally tracked down a copy of The Bronze Coinage of Great Britain which may help

Hi Globetrotter

Many thanks for the feedback. I do apologise but I'm not so sure.

Your image is a I think a standard date H  - it is the same as other examples I have.

In your image there is no gap between the line created by the lower edge of the sea/waves (above the date) and the top of all of numbers making up the date 1874.

Looking at my second image it is identical for  1 and 8 in the “18”, but I think there a small gap above the 7 ?

But I could be mistaken !
