Hello!

I have found these coins for sale and I am considering to get one of them.

1. Is the NGC slab (and coin) authentic? It seems that it is, but I just wanted to make sure.

2. Which one would you choose? The price difference is quite small, only around 13 euros.

Thank you for answers!

I would take PCGS one the website pictures look similar and I have nothing against a bit of tarnish.
But for that price I also would take both TBH.

The PCGS one cost around 59 eur, NGC 71 eur, both seem quite fair. That's just the difference of 12-13. For 13 I also would have taken both haha

You can verify if the NGC slab and coin is authentic by checking here:

I know. The problem is that all pictures are not available due to some reason, so I cannot compare the coin itself. I am almost sure the slab is genuine by how it looks on the photos, but I just wanted to make sure, since I am quite new to slabbed coins.

Excuse me?

I don't get your point. I know that I can check there. But for the higher end coins I prefer to ask for opinion of other people, specially if the photos are unavailable, or I cannot definitely tell that the coin is the same (doesn't have any specific marks, patina etc.).

get both!

there are stories of counterfeit NGC slabs, I have never seen one, but I think that is a very low probability here.

Hard to tell with 100% certainty just from the pictures, but here are some tips:

Some things to check on a PCGS holder:

  • Is the sticker on the back inside the slab? If it's on the outside, it's fake
  • Are the 3 tabs holding the coin in place the right size?
  • If there is a gold shield emblem, does it actually work with your phone, i.e. is there actually a NFC chip under the sticker? (https://www.pcgs.com/security)
  • If there is a PCGS Gold Shield logo on the sticker, is there also a PCGS shield logo in the lower left corner of the slab?
HoH

It is dispiriting that there is now well articulated guidance to detect counterfeit authentication containers. 😒
